Monday, Janury 29, 2007- It has been 2 days since the disaster-piece of St. Pete. But, this was my new plan: Leave work early, have Julianne’s roomates let me into the house, set up her room all romantic-like, pop the question, and go to a nice restaurant. Although this plan had less uncontrollable factors, (like RAIN) I still needed a lot of stuff to work out together. First, and probably the most important, was that I had to get permission to leave work early.
As soon as my boss walked in Monday morning, I asked him if I could leave early to propose. He jokingly asked me if I was sure about it, and said he would give until 3 to think about it. I assumed that was a yes. Then, I got reservations at Season 52. It was the Foodie’s Critic’s Choice for Best Overall Restaurant, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I was pretty distracted the rest of the day, even though we were extremely busy at work. I didn’t want ANYTHING to go wrong this time. I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to attempt 3 proposals.
Once I got to Julianne’s place, I felt like I was running around with my head cut off. The first thing I did was set up the candles on her bed. I had about 100 tealight candles in the shape of a heart on her bed, with roses around and a Bible opened to Ephesians 5 (about husbands loving your wife like Christ loved the Church). At the front door, I had rose petals leading to Julianne’s room. After I had set all that up, and lit all the candles and got the CD player playing the love songs CD I made, I got into Julianne’s closet, out of sight. I figured it would be better if I wasn’t in plain view, so she could focus on the candles and flowers.
I think I sat in the closet for about 1/2 hour before she came in. She was really surprised. She kept asking me how I did this, but all I wanted her to do was stop talking so I could propose. So, I got down on my knees, read her Ephesians 5:25. I told her I wanted to love her like Christ loved the Church, and I asked her to marry me. She said yes, of course!
So, if I could give any tips to guys planning proposals, I would highly suggest not doing something outdoors. And if you do, you’d better have a back-up plan.
