Rock Band 2=Might as well take up playing an instrument, FOR REAL

I just browsed through an article on Rock Band 2. According to the article, if you want to get the “Ultimate Drum Experience”, you will need to buy the ION Drum Rocker (pictured below) for $300. For that much (plus the price of the game), why not just get a set of real drums on Craigslist and learn that?

I guess its like people who like playing Sims, and making their Sim do things rather than actually doing it themselves.

To let you know, this drum set can also be used as a real one. And some people enjoy playing with their friends who are musically inept.

  2. Ray says:

    That is true!

I still think that a real drum set would be better than a drum machine.

Just so you know, that picture is not actually the ION Drum Rocker. That’s an actual electronic drum set. The Drum Rocker looks similar to that, though. Notice the actual drum brain rather than the game controller module.

I’m pretty sure the game is just for entertainment. It’s fun. It’s something you can pick up and play and then put down in one night. Don’t worry, it’s not going to replace you or real musicianship any time soon.

if you read more of the article, you will notice that it is a real electric drum set as well. You can purchase the Alesis drum simulating computer to hook up to it and there you have it! A real drum set. So no its not for people who like to make AI characters do things instead of doing it themselves, its for people who can’t afford to buy an acoustic kit or already enjoy playing drums and just want to have fun on their console as well. It just makes it more challenging and realistic.

seriously, it’s just a game dude. Just people trying to have some fun. I have one and it great, and it has really helped me with real drumming. It’s a great tool for learning technique and new songs without the noise or complexity of other acoustic or electric drums.

I do play actual drums as well as love playing rockband. It’s a fun way to rock out with friends who can’t play guitar for real.

Not sure why you sound a little condescending about this. Yes, while someone could go out and buy a real kit for this kind of money, this game actually teaches you the basics of drumming and helps people to understand rhythm. Seeing the notes charted on the screen at the same time you are supposed to hit the kit, helps people develop that relationship between what they hear in their head and what the are doing with their body. I’ll agree that these kits are a little pricey, but they offer a lot more durability and accuracy for those people who want to seriously practice their drumming skills, while at the same time having a computer give you a readout of exactly how you did, where you need to make improvements, and where you nailed a sequence of notes. I think it’s great encouragement for people who want to start getting into playing the drums.
